About I2MPACT

Inspire and Innovate: the Migratory Parent Action Coalition (I2MPACT) is a Consortium Incentive Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Migrant Education. I2MPACT is established to support state migrant education programs (MEPs) to increase parent involvement through an expanded understanding of parent involvement and enhanced parent involvement activities. Our work will help I2MPACT’s member states (Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Montana, and Pennsylvania [Lead State]) to broaden their parent involvement activities and approaches to family engagement. I2MPACT aims to strengthen the involvement of migratory parents in the education of their children and increase educational opportunities by reducing academic and nonacademic barriers to economic mobility. I2MPACT‘s focus will strengthen the capacity for the MEP to support increased parent engagement in their children’s education, expand students’ awareness and capacity to monitor their own learning, and promote planning and integrated services through training migrant staff in strategies that improve parent engagement.

The NEA Policy Brief, Parent, Family, Community Involvement in Education, reinforces the positive impacts of school, family, and community engagement on grades, attendance, drop-out prevention, and more, regardless of the parents’ education, family income, or background. I2MPACT’s activities are structured for families to learn and grow together with educational success supported through I2MPACT’s key pillars: home, school, and community.

Goals

  1.  Support local education agencies to develop and implement a targeted Family Engagement Action Plan

  2. Increase the capacity of educators to facilitate relevant and accessible parent involvement activities

  3. Foster robust and intentional parent participation in their children’s education

Member States

I2MPACT has eight member states and is led by the Pennsylvania Migrant Education Program and Arroyo Research Services. I2MPACT’s State Steering Team (SST) serves as our governing body and review board. Our Technical Support Team (TST) is comprised of nationally recognized leaders noted for their work with migratory children and their families.
