Instructional Materials
I2MPACT Learning Materials are designed to provide resources to MEP staff and other educators and professionals who work with migratory families, parents, caretakers, and children. Links to the various resources are provided in each section.
Community Video Series I2MPACT has produced a set of community videos which highlight different community agencies and services. The videos were designed for parents and caregivers. The videos share useful information about the resources and services the agencies provide, how to access the services, and how the agencies are important for children's learning. Share the clips with your migratory parents today.

Language and Literacy Learning Module The language and literacy module is intended to support MEP staff working directly with parents to provide them with important information about language and literacy development. The parent activities may be added to a variety of parent event settings.
Learning Kits The Preschool Initiative (PI) created easy-to-use Learning Kits for in-home use with preschool migratory children. Each kit contains three books, four activity cards, and all the materials to carry out the activities. Children are guided through making predictions, retelling events in the stories, sorting shapes, and making patterns. Parents are encouraged to join the fun and continue the activities. These are intended to use for home-based/outreach sessions, can be carried out with minimal training, and are replicated easily.
Middle School Decision Making Unit The middle school years are a time when adolescents are growing, changing and asserting more independence. It's also a time when they may be faced with tough or important decisions that can have lasting effects. I2MPACT members created this unit on decision making to help families better understand how the middle school age child's brain develops and how to coach kids to make well thought out decisions. The materials are intended to be used with the students and their parents/caretakers so they can talk about what it takes to make good decisions. Educators, refer to the Facilitator's Guide for an overview of how to use the materials.

Middle School Family Learning Kits Middle school is a time when when children are growing and changing, asserting more independence, but still need the strength and guidance of their parents and caretakers. I2MPACT created a Middle School Learning Kit to help migratory families address the changes kids are going through and ensure that lines of communication remain open as kids are faced with tough decisions during these critical years. The Middle School Learning Kit is designed to help middle school students and their parents/caretakers begin conversations about the physical, social, emotional and/or intellectual changes that are taking place during these crucial years of development. Maintaining open, honest and productive conversations between children and parents is essential for maintaining healthy living. The Learning Kit has several components. It is introduced by a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation which provides an overview of the four key growth and change areas: Physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. The presentation contains information and activities designed to elicit or build background knowledge and will better prepare the families to use the materials in the Learning Kit. Each Kit contains a wordless picture book, a teen workbook, a deck of conversation cards and a journal. The PPT showcases each resource so that educators can replicate the kits. National PTA Family Resources The PTA’s nationwide network provides parents with the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children not only at their schools, but also throughout their districts, within their states, and across the nation. Its mission as stated on its website is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
Ready4K is an evidence-based family engagement curriculum delivered via text messages. Each week, parents who participate receive short texts with fun facts and easy tips to promote their children's development and learning. Tips include activities families can do that build on existing routines, like count the number of steps as they walk to the car or bus.
Resource Rubrics PI created four rubrics that provide information on curricula and learning materials for year-long preschool (pre-k) programs, summer pre-k and jumpstart to kindergarten programs, and parent training/home instruction.
STEM Instructional Unit Materials and Training The Preschool Initiative (PI) states facilitated several hands-on, inquiry-based activities with migratory preschool students and their families from the book Making and Tinkering with STEM: Solving Design Challenges with Young Children by Cate Heroman. The activities are designed to stimulate children's (and parents') critical thinking skills. These fun, interactive, and thought-provoking exercises engage families in creative ways. Each key design challenge is supported by a poignant text that serves to build or elicit background knowledge.
